Kristi Smith- poems

Page history last edited by Kristi Smith 13 years, 11 months ago

Twas the night of the fledging and all through the house

All the owlets were screeching and each had a mouse

The landing pad placed by Carlos with care,

The viewers all thought, "We're so glad that's there."

Most people were watching and some went to bed

While visions of owlets danced in their heads.

Molly in a palm tree, McGee on a hunt

Had just gobbled down a big gopher for lunch.

Soon little Max, determined to fly

Jumps out the door and waves a goodbye.

Three little ones left to follow each other

With all of us thinking, "Good grief, where's their mother?"

From out of the darkness Molly appears,

With a great gasp we say, "Oh thank God she's here."

Then with a swift glide, McGee finally came.

He hooted and hollered and called them by name:

"Now Max! Now Pattison! Now Austin and Wesley!

From the perch just watch and repeat after me!

Don't go until after you hear me call,

Now fly away, fly away, fly away all."

Dedication to Zorro the Mouse: ( the mouse that got away from Molly)

Hello little mouse

Is that you that I see

Don't mean to frighten you

My name is McGee

You shouldn't be roaming

Out here all alone

There are hungry little owlets

Waiting at home

But since you are small

I'll leave you be

Just tell all the rabbits

To BEWARE of McGee

Once upon a time

Not to far away

The world fell in love

With two birds of prey

A female named Molly

And her mate McGee

Then the expansion

    ~their family~

Four owlets have captured

Our lives all by storm

And a little "dud" egg

In which Molly kept warm

Soon they will fledge

And our lives must go on

But we will always remember

Their beautiful "song" (screeching)

 The day will soon come

When our owls will leave

We all will be sad

And I'm sure we will grieve

But we all will be grateful

For this wonderful site

That's been consuming our lives

Both day and night

Thank you, Carlos and Donna

For bringing us this

For when that day comes

You too will be missed

There once was an owl named Max

"Whoo" became famous the day that he hatched

It didin't take long

For him to grow strong

And let his mom, Molly, RELAX

Dreaming of tonight

Kristi, I love these! Sat here with a broad grin on my face as I read them like a child with wonder. Really precious!
