Poetry From Molly the Barn Owl Facebook Page

Page history last edited by Mollie 13 years, 10 months ago

This poetry was transferred to the Molly the Barn Owl Facebook page from the Sportsman's Paradise Online chat about Molly by a number of folks in an effort to  produce a collection of the poetry. Then that Facebook page disappeared for a time, which caused this wiki to be set up where more control could be maintained of the archive of poetry. The Facebook page returned and the poetry that was stored there has been copied here for posterity. : )

Ode to Our Owls

By Debi Strong (with love for all sufferers of MOD)

Once, in the California town of San Marcos,

There lived a kind couple, Donna and Carlos,

Who erected an owl box close-by in a tree,

Which two years later brought us Molly and McGee.

The two owls settled and made a nice nest;

Then Molly laid six eggs and needed a rest.

So she sat on her eggs while they incubated,

And McGee went hunting to keep her well-sated.

Several weeks later, it seemed like forever,

The chicks started hatching, with nary a feather!

But Molly kept them all safe and warm,

Through windy weather, and some brief cold storms.

While McGee kept the young ones and Molly well fed,

With rodents and rabbits, that were mostly dead.

Molly kept house the best that she could,

In a box filled with bones, blood, and fur over wood.

And as she struggled with trying to keep order

We all contracted Molly Obsessive Disorder

No rest for the weary, we could not sleep

We HAD to watch Molly, McGee, and the peeps!

But we’re learning to cope with suffering from MOD

From England to Brazil to Quitar and Cape Cod,

We do love our owls, we’ve all learned so much,

And we wonder, when they leave, will they stay in touch?

My advice? Just enjoy all these owls while we can,

And be grateful to Carlos for sharing this cam.

Get the comic, the mug, the shirt and a book,

And keep on bringing others to come take a look.

Dark night, silent flight

Squeal of prey as whisked away

Eager squeaks, wide beaks.

The owlets so impatient

for their rabbit snack

Bella, 7yrs old

Molly so free,

Up in that tree,

Feathers a fluff,

I can't get enough,

Of watching you move in your nest,

And at rest!

There once was an owl named Max

"Whoo" became famous the day that he hatched

It didn't take long

For him to grow strong

And let his mom, Molly, RELAX

Thank you from our hearts

Molly the barn owl eats meat,

It is so fun to watch her eat,

She feeds it to her kids as a treat,

Then they all take a rest,

Mother and babies asleep in their nest.

SUFFERING FROM M.O.D.
By Kelly Warren April 6th 2010

Sitting here, like a spy

watching the nest, 15 feet high.

Four little darlings, stuffed under their mom,

who would have thought that this would be fun.

Should have been 6, 2 were not ment to be,

over 6 million viewers were disappointed for Molly and McGee.

Max is the oldest and getting quite bold,

swallows down mice whole, or so I am told.

Pattison is growing awfully fast, soon he will catch up and push around Max!

Austin and Wesley are last but not least, hold

their heads up high when mom dishes out a feast!

In 60 days or so OUR babies will go. Some of

us will cheer, others will tear, when we cant

get our Molly fix no more!

The day will soon come

When our owls will leave

We all will be sad

And I'm sure we will grieve

But we all will be grateful

for this wonderful site

That's been consuming our lives

Both day and night

Thank you, Carlos and Donna

For bringing us this

For when that day comes

You too (two)will be missed

Oh, Oh... sweet Molly and McGee

how you both bring us so much glee

your babies make all our hearts smile

How very sad we'll be to see you all flee

We'll never forget the sweet memories we see

Oh Molly, by golly, I miss you so much

I've spent not a day away from you and your clutch

The cam has gone down, Carlos is out on the town

Your face is not visibile, I'm feeling so down.

I miss your sweet babies, soon they'll be grown

They'll fledge and they'll fly, and be out on their own

You'll have a new clutch, perhaps babies times ten!

The cam will come up, and start all this AGAIN!

To owlets it's really quite nice

Their nest box is like paradice

Molly and McGee

Still feed them for free

On gophers and rabbits and mice

By Boots from Ohio

Rock-a-bye Molly,

In the owl box,

Owlets are sleeping,

No one will squawk.

When they all fledge,

Though lost we will be,

We know there'll be rest,

For Molly and McGee.

Are you sleeping

wake up soon

By Kristi Smith

Hello little mouse

Is that you that I see

Don't mean to frighten you

My name is McGee

You shouldn't be roaming

out here all alone

There are hungry little owlets

Waiting at home

But since you are small

I'll leave you be

Just tell all the rabbits

To BEWARE of McGee!

By Kristi Smith:

Once upon a time

Not too far away

The world fell in love

With two birds of prey

A female named Molly

And her mate McGee

Then the expansion

~their family~

Four owlets have captured

Our lives all by storm

And a little "dud" egg

In which Molly kept warm

Soon they will fledge

And our lives must go on

But we will always remember

Their beautiful "song" (screeching)

About McGee--
By dave the buzzard man

He glides silently

through the darkness hunting prey

then flies swiftly home

By Merritt (Haiku)

Molly flies at dusk

To stretch her wings, soar and eat.

Do not blame McGee!

Mommy went out

for a night on the town

Hunting with daddy,

flying all around.

We’re getting big now.

Mommy doesn’t worry.

But everyone watching

Wishes she would hurry.

Please don’t worry MODies,

Mommy is close by.

If we ever need her,

All we do is cry.

Then she and our good Daddy

Will fly back right away

With a gopher or a bunny

And a promise that they’ll stay.

So just enjoy our antics,

From morning until night.

Cause Carlos, Molly and McGee

All know that we’re alright!

A few weeks ago I was given a link

As I clicked on it then I didn’t even think

That what I’d see would so change my life

As i started watching the antics of McGee & his wife

3 owlets they had then & 2 eggs opening soon,

I saw Wesley hatch & was over the moon!

The last egg didn’t make it, which is quite sad to see

But its got its own persona & is known as Dudley.

The 4 little owlets are now healthy & strong

& I know in a few months they will all move along

In the meantime I think about Molly & her clan

From morning till night time & watch when I can

My house is now getting a terrible mess

(ok it wasn’t that clean before – I confess!)

The dust is gathering & the dishes piled high

The laundry pile is growing & will soon reach the sky

When I’m working I think about Molly a lot

My kids & my husband think i’ve lost the plot!

But this true story i’m watching is fascinating to me

& I now have a case of Extreme MOD

I’d like to send thanks to Carlos & Donna

For allowing us to share this has been a great honour

On silent wings

In dead of night

She leaves her young

And soars in flight.

The current takes her

Where it will

She's mindless of

The evening's chill.

Breathing, stretching,

Flying free

Being what she's

Meant to be.

She sees a movement

In the grass

And swoops to make

A surveil pass.

A tiny rodent

Hovers there

And soon is

In the talons' snare.

She changes course

And heads for home

To feed the babes

She'd left alone.

Her freedom

At the moment, stalled.

Her fuzzy ones

At home have called.

We watch enthralled

To see The Plan

Revealed in nature,

For joy of Man.

War and Peace

With tanks and guns and angry men
Fighting for some “cause”
Man destroys the world with hate
While enforcing his own laws.

The battle cry is, “The world needs peace!”
While bombs and guns explode.
And peace remains elusive
From those pushing their own code.

But sitting in a little box
In a California town
Is a band of tiny angels
Who have garnered world renown.

People from all nations
Scattered 'round the entire earth
Gather daily all together
With great joy and intense mirth.

Hovered at computers
Waiting for the next event
Cheering, laughing, talking
Until the night is spent.

Folks from every continent,
Tribe, and each great nation
Watch Molly and her babies
From their computer station.

No bombs or guns or wars are here,
Just a box we treasure
As unaware, the babies grow
And bring us all together.

Peace is not elusive
It's very close at hand
When one observes creation
And nature 'cross the land.

Join with us, my Brother,
Put down your guns and rest.
Watch the miracle before you
And you, too, shall be blessed.

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.”
John 14:27 KJV
