An Ode to Our Owls

5-20-2010

by Tip (aka Theresa)

Somewhere in the forest in the hollow of a tree,

there's another nesting owlet - maybe two, or even three!
And like their human counterparts, they practice to astound,

nocturnal, though, they'd rather wait for the house lights to go down.
Cautiously they step into their stage - the dark, black night;

flex and stretch, dart out and back:  They're practicing for flight.
They'll learn to conquer to be fed, grow strong, they must survive,

 for latent, deep within them, waits another, basic drive:

They'll leave the hollow of the tree, venture out towards Molly's box;

and amid the next commotion, well, it's not a paradox...
Though the cameras won't be rolling in the hollow of that tree,

Maxine will lay an egg, wait - maybe two, or even three!
Knowing better, still I'd like to think that now and then,

Patti, Wes and Austin do a fly-by, greet their friend :)
"Our" owls have fledged with no intent to cause us any strife;

they're just participating in that cycle we call "life."

Meanwhile, back in San Marcos...
Carlos squints, sips from his mug, calls Donna, "Look, by golly!"
They're standing at the window: Do you suppose they've spotted Molly?

A Rythme

Little eyes peer

out of the box,

Feathers and pellets

& fluffing for sox.

Haiku

Only 80 days

Of these fabulous displays

Then an empty box.

Inside the owl box

A wooden womb:  safe, secure.

Prepare to fledge - birth!

When an owlet falls

in the forest, sight unseen,

Do humans lose sleep?

We're so vigilant,

--mere humans.  How much more does

God scrutinze us?

A Royal Farewell

He bids us "adieu" in Carlos' classic style:

Fraught with technical difficulties,

Of course we HAVE to smile!

Bless your heart you huge-hearted man.

Just Philosophy

Oct 20, 2010

Ok, listen -- life is full of possibilities, I mean, who would have ever thought it was possible for an owl to pay for a kid's college education?  Just think, we are only limited by our lack of vision.  Remember when the owlets thought  that all there was to life was what was within those four walls?
