THE POETRY BUG

Better poems than this "been written"

About these owls by whom we're smitten

Look in the Wiki for better verse

Our Ruthie and others have the gift (or curse.)

Yes, I call it curse

For once you've been bitten

And you've been smitten

By the poetry bug

It's hard to rest.

It 's sort of test.

You feel your head spinning

Your brain it is reeling

You need more time

To make your words rhyme

You know you're not Keats

You know you're not Shelly

And NOT the Bard of Avon

You love to quote Wordsworth

You lover to quote Frost

All Emily's verse you've posted

Ne're let it be said of this mess you've boasted.

~~~~BIRDS WE LOVE~~~~~
May you have blue birds in the Spring
Red Robins in your trees to sing
And may the Jay, the gorgeous Jay
To your tree come
And may he stay.
Other birds have their charms
Of these now I speak:
The wren is such a little bird
Throughout the land her song is heard
She builds her nest most anywhere
If in your mailbox, she doesn't care.
The Common Loon
Has a haunting tune
To hear it call is to hear a cry
That seems to pierce the very sky.
Golden Eagle's call's a lark
It starts like a tiny little bark
And then it builds to a mighty trill
Till its quite shrill.
The Cooper's Hawk's cry is quite persistent
To find a mate he's quite insistent
He'll call all night
Till that little hawk's in sight.
The yellow canary doesn't rest
It's said its song's the very best
The Bald Eagle's our National Bird
And Its countenance is quite stern
It's claws hold arrows and fronds of green
Its strength and beauty by all are seen
To see it soar across the sky
Is to hold in your heart a prayer and a sigh
Let there be peace
So many birdies
So much grace
So much beauty in form and face
So many colors for our eyes to feast
Of all these beauties not the least
.................The Common Barn Owl
We watched them come
We've seen them go
We've laughed and cried
We've loved them so
LET THERE BE OWLS
I wish us barn owls in our coops
And to our ears some "Hoot, hoot, hoots!"
My wish is this
Just simply this
Let there be owls!
I wish our eyes a veritable feast
Of hatching eggs and "Cheep, cheep, cheeps"!
My wish is this
Just simply this
Let there be owls
May we see Sydney feeding babes
And our dear Mel not in a haze
But bringing prey the live long day(night)
May there be owls!
This is July
Serve lemonade
Sip slowly in some leafy glade
With fellow Mods
And those you love
Listen for Owls!
I wish us cool temps in all climes
Peace in our hearts
At all times
Added to this
There is the wish
Let there be owls!
OUR DELIGHTFUL OWLS
What a delight
What a sight
Owls to the coop
See them swoop
They greet each other so happily
You'd think they'd been gone a week
They've been in the same tree all day you see
But they call out Hello, sweet Peek!
What a delight to see that bounce
Like a puppet being lifted high then dropped
I giggle and watch that pounce
I don't want this bubble popped
But off they fly
And I give a sigh
And try to write a poem
By the time I'm ending
I go up to check
And  there they are
Sitting so pretty.
LEARNING OWL SKILLS
Learning to hunt
Learning to soar
O'er meadows and fields
Not peeking thru a door
Honing new skills
Seeing new sights
Hearing new sounds
In the dark of the night
Playing in the branches
Pouncing around
Smelling the pine
Goodness abounds
Feeling the breeze
Through feathers so fine
Upon little mousies
Tonight we will dine
Moonlight is streaming
Through branches and leaves
You feel there's no limit
To what you'll achieve
High in the sky
You hear your mom call
Tonight, she promises,
We'll have a ball
There will come a day
You'll have your first capture
Soon it will be
Oh! What rapture!
AS THEY LEARN To BE FREE
Let them prance
Let them dance
Let them be wild and free
May they jump from limb to limb
Fly from tree to tree
Through the sky
Soon they'll soar
Swiftly and silently
With keen eye
And keen ear
Our babes will soon be free
Doing what they were meant to do
Being what they will be
Through the night
By the light
Of a glorious moon
The Call of the Wild
The call of the wild
It has begun
We've lost the light
We've lost the sun
Ashley and Carrie soon to fly
Maybe we'll see them in the bye and bye
Ashley and Carrie soon to be free
But what becomes of you and me?
Ashley & Carrie
Ashley stands stoic-like
Carrie cries within
Ashley's stance--- the Wise Old Owl
Her patience wearing thin
"I think the lesson's clear, my dear,
Carrie, we're on our own!" Wink
While we watch the screen
We watch them with love
We watch them with glee
We capture their images wishing
Time would stand still
And hold them here
But our angels are meant to fly free.
They make us giggle
They make us laugh
At times we cringe as their feet need a bath
They make our hearts sing
They make our hearts dance
When they jump on the roof
Or on the porch they prance.
Their beauty enthralls
Our breath it steals
We dare not look away
Too soon this image will surely pass
It may only be here for today
We're in awe of their tenderness
As each other they groom
Their preening fills us with glee.
Then we spy the red walls
Of mousy downfalls
And remember it's Raptors we see.
Well it's Noon
Well it's noon
And here I sit!
Still in my gown
And so unfit!
I need to exercise!
I need to pray!
But here I sit
The live long day!
Chatting with friends
Waiting for owls
Postng poems
I should wash the towels!
The bed's unmade
The floor needs sweeping
But here I sit
At owls I keep peeking
Molly and McGee
Ah! What a pair!
We wait for Syn,
We yearn for Mel
Where are they?
No one will tell.
If We Had Owls
Just at a glance
I'd say
We need a dance
To draw the rain
That grows the grain
That feeds the prey
Mousies & voles
To come out of their holes
And stay the day
Wouldn't feel so foul
If we had owls!
We have owl hungry eyes!
We have owl hungry eyes!
We look to the skies!
But No owls do we spy!
We need rain
And grain
For the wee mousies and voles
May we get some quickly
To come from their holes!
Give Us Owls
Give us owls
Just two owls
'Neath the starry skies above!
Please, give us owls!
Our sweet Syd
And her Mel
Need to come back home to dwell.
Please, send our owls!
To start , just two
Soon will be
Eggs, one, two, three
Oh, maybe more,
Even four
Wouldn't that be great
Maybe even even eight!
We need rain, please send rain,
Which will then call forth the grain
For the wee mousies and voles
To scamper on little toes from holes.
Our owl-hungry eyes
Are ready for surprise
There's magic in the rain
Please, send rain!
The song "Give me land, lots of land..." was playing in my mind and the first verse above came from that.
